So, as this is my first post, I will keep it short and sweet.
What I am trying to do with this brand new idea of mine is create a place where people can not only upload stories, photos, and videos of their favorite bands playing in, or at, their favorite sports teams venues, but also bring you as many stories and write ups that I myself find, or attend.
My two passions in life have always been sports and music.
I currently am a writer and editor at nwsportsbeat.com covering the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Sonics, and the University of Washington Huskies football and basketball programs. My portfolio is here.
Before I ventured back into the world of community college and university, I was a musician. I have played in several bands, two of which were nationally touring, and have played a wide range of concert instruments like clarinet, trombone, and tuba, and the drums, guitar and vocals that I played in the touring bands I played in.
I like the idea of what the extreme sports world has done with fusing music and sports together, but like so many of the people who are close to me, I have no interest in extreme sports.
This is where my idea comes in.
I want to take that same platform of the hard-rock extreme sports scene, and point it towards the interests of myself and my friends.
I love punk rock. That is what I play. That is what I listen to.
And, with the exception of a handful of bands that I listen to regularly, they all sing about sports. Mostly soccer (football), and hockey, but there are some great songs about baseball as well. I believe the soccer and hockey songs are sung the most because of the tie between the working class fans, and the musicians who take pride in their working class communities.
This will all start off as sort of a grass-roots affair, mostly by word of mouth. Just like how most of the bands that I listen to started their own careers off.
I have an event to kick off my new venture in the works as we speak. I want to get a few local bands to come out and play at the local hockey rink, prior to, and in between games.
I will have a photographer on site for sure, so pictures will be up on the Facebook and Twitter sites celebrating the kick off, as well in my article here that will be covering the event.
